Breaking News: First Lady of the United States to Speak

Continuing her commitment to community service, First Lady Michelle Obama will join California’s First Lady Maria Shriver on Monday June 22nd to kick off the 2009 National Conference on Volunteering and Service. Both first ladies will make brief remarks and work on a community playground service project with volunteers at a mid-day event at Bret Harte Elementary School in San Francisco.

The National Conference on Volunteering and Service is hosted by the Corporation for National and Community Service and the Points of Light Institute. The annual conference will include thousands of volunteers and service leaders from across the country to discuss and further engage in community service.

Online registration is currently closed so it can be moved to Moscone West. Registration will re-open onsite at Moscone Center West Saturday June 20, 2009 at 6:30 AM.

The 2009 National Conference on Volunteering and Service, taking place June 22-24 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, promises to be a bellwether in the growing movement to redefine citizenship and volunteering for the 21st century.
